CDU2022_A032 : Treatment of Wastewater by Plant-Based Coagulant

Coagulants are essential in purifying raw water for humans and animals. Aluminium sulphate is the most common and effective chemical coagulant for water treatment. On the other hand, chemical coagulants are ineffective, toxic, and harmful to the environment and create severe health issues, including cancer and neurologic disorders. The natural plant-based coagulant is a natural coagulant that may be utilized in the water treatment coagulation process. This research was to determine the utilization of plant-based materials as coagulants in water treatment. From the research study, Moringa oleifera seed, and Maize seed can reduce the turbidity, chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), ammonia-nitrogen and total suspended solids (TSS) in the effluent sample. Based on the results, moringa oleifera and maize can be recognized as alternative solutions to chemical coagulants for long-term water treatment systems.
